Prosperity in Equality
was established in 2021 with the mission of empowering poor and underprivileged communities. Initially focused on uplifting marginalized groups, URDP has evolved over time, embracing a broader vision of holistic and sustainable development.
With a strong commitment to equity, resilience, and sustainability, URDP works to create lasting solutions that enhance livelihoods, ensuring that communities can thrive in a rapidly changing world. By integrating social, economic, and environmental factors, the program aims to build a future where both urban and rural populations can prosper with dignity and self-sufficiency.
Urban and Rural Development Programme (URDP) has been dedicated to the holistic development of rural populations since its inception in 2021. With a strong commitment to uplifting marginalized communities in Bangladesh, URDP has continuously expanded its scope to address various socio-economic and environmental challenges.
URDP’s key focus areas include livelihood enhancement, skill development, health, education, water and sanitation, nutrition, maternal and child healthcare, and arsenic mitigation. The organization is also actively engaged in addressing the evolving needs of underprivileged communities.
Additionally, URDP plays a crucial role in social development, food security, disaster management, agricultural development, livestock and fisheries support, water resource management, hazardous child labor reduction, counter-trafficking interventions, human rights advocacy, and adult and child education. Through these initiatives, URDP aims to build an equitable society free from poverty, ensuring sustainable progress and resilience within its working areas.

Urban and Rural Development Programme (URDP) strives to create an egalitarian society free from economic disparity and poverty, ensuring equal opportunities, dignity, security, and respect for all.
A 21-member General Committee (GC) governs the Urban and Rural Development programmeme (URDP). This GC is responsible for overall oversight and selects a seven-member Executive Committee (EC) to guide strategic decision-making. The EC provides essential policy directions to the organization.
The Member Secretary of the EC, designated as the Executive Director (ED), oversees the planning and implementation of URDP’s programmes and activities. The ED provides necessary guidance to the staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, aiming to achieve individual programme goals while fulfilling URDP’s broader mission and vision.
The Executive Director monitors programme implementation, outcomes, and challenges through a structured Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) system. This includes holding regular meetings with staff at various levels and conducting field visits to engage directly with programme participants.
The EC meets periodically to review and discuss progress reports, assess outcomes, and address any emerging issues from the previous year. These meetings result in strategic decisions and directives for the ED, who then ensures their effective implementation through URDP’s staff across organizational and field levels.
URDP maintains a two-way decision-making and governance process—from the top down and the bottom up—ensuring inclusive participation and responsiveness at all levels.
Every financial year, URDP organizes an Annual General Meeting (AGM), which includes all GC and EC members as well as key staff. The AGM serves as a platform to present, discuss, and review annual achievements, challenges, and decisions. It also finalizes the approval of the annual budget and sets the direction for the coming year. This annual process reinforces URDP’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability.
